In Côte d'Ivoire, political tension has been mounting since Alassane Ouattara announced his candidacy for a third presidential term in early August.

Sporadic protests interspersed with violence left 15 people dead last month.

This Sunday, September 20, the opposition called for the mobilization of its supporters for future demonstrations against this candidacy.

The opposition, whose dean Henri Konan Bédié calls for “civil disobedience”, demands a new Constitutional Council and a new Electoral Commission before the organization of any election.

“The opposition is irresponsible.

There is no question of going back ”, answers the RHDP, determined to go to the elections on October 31 as planned.

Adama Bictogo is the executive director of the RHDP (Rassemblement des houphouëtistes pour la democratie et la paix), the coalition of political parties supporting Alassane Ouattara's candidacy.
