In front of Staples Center following the death of Kobe Bryant in January 2020 -

This is an omission that does not pass for basketball fans (and not only).

Kobe Bryant, who died on January 26 in a helicopter crash, was not present during the In Memoriam sequence of the Emmy Awards, dedicated to all the personalities of the world of entertainment and television who died in the year preceding ceremony.

While the athlete was not indeed an actor or personality in the actual television world, he was, according to ET Canada, “a constant screen presence” throughout his career.

The affront goes even worse than this year, the ceremony took place at the Staples Center, the arena in which Kobe Bryant has played his entire career under the colors of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The reactions did not take long.

Umm @TheEmmys how do you manage to leave out Kobe Bryant from the In Memoriam while filming at Staples Center?

“Um, the Emmys, how you managed to forget Kobe Bryant from In Memoriam as you shoot at Staples Center,” Sophie Rae Lichterman wrote on Twitter for example.

am i the only one confused as to why kobe wasnt a part of the in memoriam section ???

he was literally involved in the film industry and even has an emmy governors award.

they had to make the choice to exclude him like it's so weird

"Am I the only one who is confused and doesn't understand why Kobe isn't in the In Memoriam?"

He was part of the film industry and he even has an Emmy Governors award.

They made the choice to exclude it, ”lamented a certain Isabella.

Not the only one

Other surprising omissions: those of Nick Cordero and Kelly Preston.

The former had recurring roles in shows like

Blue Bloods

or

Law & Order

, and the latter, married to John Travolta, had appeared in countless series and TV shows during her 40-year career.

The Emmy Awards have not given an explanation for their absence, but other stars have been "forgotten", such as horror actor Sid Haig, Monty Python Terry Jones, and film legend Olivia. de Havilland.

Each year, the Emmy Awards cite time constraints to justify their choices.

Those of this year may be more difficult to get accepted.
