The Digital Museum of Emirati Plastic Art of the Fujairah Social and Cultural Society revived, the day before yesterday, the fourth anniversary of the departure of Emirati plastic artist Hassan Sharif, by allocating a cultural symposium entitled “Hassan Sharif in Memory of Art”, broadcast on the visual communication platform “Zoom”, in the presence of Khaled Al-Dhanhani is the chairman of the association’s board of directors, and a large audience of artists and those interested in contemporary art.

The symposium, in which the writer Adel Khouzam, the poet and director Nujoom Al-Ghanim and the artist Khalil Abdul Wahid, and moderated by Rasha Al-Maleh, participated in the seminar, and dealt with stations from the life of artist Hassan Sharif, who is considered one of the pioneers of conceptual art in the Emirates.

At the beginning of the symposium, Al-Maleh presented the epic journey that Sharif lived, when it was mixed with persistence and determination to achieve his goals, by introducing a new visual art, and spreading the soul in the atmosphere of plastic art among the new generations in the Emirates.

In turn, the writer Adel Khouzam talked about his distinguished relationship with the late artist Hassan Sharif, and his human journey that was not separated from the artistic side, as his life moments varied between art, literature, poetry and existential philosophy.

Khouzam reviewed the late life since entering school at the age of ten, lagging behind his classmates, which posed a great challenge to him in overcoming the obstacles that were facing him in life, as he distinguished from his youth with smart scribbles, which he started by drawing caricatures in the Al-Nasr Club magazine, then turned into a painter in This art is in some local newspapers, like Fajr and Al-Wahda.

Khouzam considered that the honorable artist’s travel to London to study at the beginning of the eighties of the last century was a major turning point in his life, especially after his return from his studies of visual sciences, and his paintings became the result of philosophical and poetic influences. He also established the art studio at the Youth Theater in Dubai, as a meeting place. Artist and intellectual for artists and thinkers in modern art. He also contributed to the founding of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, and the "Five" group for conceptual art, which included Muhammad Kazem, Muhammad Ahmed Ibrahim, Abdullah Al Saadi, and Hussein Sharif.

Khouzam continued: “In the nineties, Al-Sharif faced marginalization from some cultural institutions, and not being nominated among the external participations. Fame did not take him away from his friends and his community. ”

For her part, the poet and director Nujoom Al-Ghanem referred to her experience with the late artist Hassan Sharif, which began her relationship with him in the 1980s, and after his return from Britain, when he worked to change the plastic movement, in addition to his preoccupation with the translation of the artistic movement.

Al-Ghanim added: “I knocked on the doors of his worlds, through my film (Sharp Machines) to document his plastic, human and intellectual legacy, his life moment by moment, and monitor his tours at the work site, and I wanted the film to be an attempt to give the artist Hassan a part of his right to art, and to highlight his value and strong presence. In the entire region, I also tried in the film to leave the entire space for Hassan Sharif to personally tell his story with art, and present his self-vision regarding philosophy, literature, music, friends, relationships, challenges and rituals of his work, in addition to shedding light on his artistic project based on the conceptual form.

Al-Ghanim presented a series of poetry readings related to the film.

For his part, the plastic artist Khalil Abdel Wahid, who is one of the students of the late artist Hassan Sharif, reviewed his experience, how he studied by his hands, learned to draw the silent nature, and mastered the basics of artistic work that began with learning pencil drawing, and moving to coloring in later stages.

Abdel Wahid said: “The artist Sharif was directing us towards strong works of art visually, and correcting the mistakes that we were making during our work in the free studio, so he had the main credit for my entry into the world of plastic art, and I do not forget his role in paving the way to continue my artistic education abroad, and absorb all the skills Art, he established an important generation of artists on the Emirati scene.

He explained that the late artist Hassan Sharif was not a teacher to us, but rather an educator, cared about his students, and followed their needs.

Important creative value

Khaled Al-Dhanhani, Chairman of the Fujairah Social and Cultural Association, said: “The allocation of a cultural symposium to the late artist Hassan Sharif stems from the great importance of this artist, who was a humble person and had an artistic mission mixed with the human dimension, and believed in the role of art in contemporary Emirati society.”

Adding, "This artist has an important creative value in the world of composition, and he had a clear influence in art. Sharif also had an important imprint on the nature of the artistic movement, its prospects and developments in the region, and he encouraged many Emirati youth to pursue new experiences in the visual arts."

Sharif founded the Art Studio, the Emirates Fine Arts Group, and the “Five” conceptual art group.
