Eight police custody continued Sunday evening in Paris after the resumption of demonstrations by the "yellow vests" the day before.

Fourteen suspects are to be tried in immediate appearance on Monday, we learned from the prosecution.

A total of 139 people were taken into police custody on Saturday on the sidelines of these rallies which brought together 2,500 demonstrators in the streets of the capital, according to the Interior Ministry.

300 people arrested

Nearly 300 people were arrested during the day, which was notably punctuated by clashes between demonstrators and the police in the north-west of Paris.

Garbage cans were set on fire, street furniture overturned and two cars burned.

For their part, the police fired tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators who left the route authorized by the prefecture.

The suspects to be tried in immediate appearance are in particular suspected of violence against a person holding public authority.

Among the other police custody already lifted, 52 gave rise to a classification without follow-up or a reminder of the law by a judicial police officer, said the prosecution.

Paris appearances have also been banned.
