On September 12, the east extension section of Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street was officially opened. Citizen tourists can stroll all the way from People’s Square to the Bund.

At Nanjing East Road near Jiangxi Middle Road, Shanghai's first arc light also lights up again.

It is understood that in 1882, the first arc lamp in Shanghai was lit on Nanjing East Road. At that time, the arc lamp on the pole was shining under the night, like a bright moon.

For many years, this lamppost has been erected here, but because it is blocked by greenery, not many people have found it.

During the eastward expansion of Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, this history was excavated.

Today, the designer has created a square "1882 Square" on the original site of this lamp, using the surrounding ground, walls and various lights to create a gorgeous effect, which is unique and meaningful.
