The 29th edition of the Fiesta des Suds, an important festival which was to take place from October 8 to 10 at the foot of the Mucem in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), was canceled due to constraints related to the health crisis, announced this Monday its organizers.

"We believed in it until the last moment", declared the director of the music festival Lucie Taurines.

Measures were planned to respect physical distancing: "We reduced the places from 5,000 to 4,800, installed barriers for queues, added screens everywhere ...", she listed.

"A seated Fiesta does not correspond to our identity"

But since the passage of the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the red zone in mid-August, the health constraints had been tightened by the authorities: to take place, the concerts of the festival would have had to welcome only the seated public.

A condition impossible to impose for the director of the event: “We are a popular festival.

During the Fiesta, people dance, mingle, talk, have fun… a seated Fiesta does not correspond to our identity.

"

In 2021, Lucie Taurines hopes to be able to celebrate with dignity the 30th edition of the festival, which had never been canceled until this year: “I hope that we can organize a historic Fiesta next year that will make us forget this bad memory ".
