Several dozen people demonstrated in Marseille on Saturday in front of an administrative detention center (CRA), where several undocumented migrants began a hunger strike, demanding the closure of these establishments.

The demonstrators, the vast majority of immigrant rights activists from Solidaires, Education Network Without Borders, or El Manba, responded to a national appeal from the SOS Sans Papiers collective.

"The land of white people's rights"

They gathered in front of the Canet center, in the north of Marseille, which currently houses 63 people according to the associations.

These centers make it possible to detain a foreigner who is the subject of an expulsion decision, pending his forced return, for a period which must not exceed 90 days.

"It is all the more urgent to close the CRAs with the Covid: people are sick inside and are not detected, and as the borders are blocked, they are held back for months without any prospect", denounced Philippe Chouard, activist of Asti d'Aix-en-Provence (Association of Solidarity with All Immigrants).

A young Guinean asylum seeker, Aboubacar, lambasted France, "a country which claims to be the country of human rights but in fact it is the country of white rights".
