A picture of two girls using wireless technology (Wi-Fi) to the Internet in a fast food restaurant, to follow lessons, remotely, has become a symbol of the digital divide that exists in the United States.

The photo shows two girls with two small computers sitting on the concrete floor outside the Taco Bell restaurant in Salinas, California, close to Silicon Valley.

Their faces were hidden in the picture with an emoji, to preserve privacy, while two workers at the restaurant approached them.

This photo was widely circulated on the Internet, after it was published by Kevin de Leon, a local official.

Last week, he wrote in a tweet, “Two students sit in front of (Taco Bell) to use Wi-Fi and follow classes online.

It's California, Silicon Valley.

The digital divide here is wider than ever. ”

This city, which is located in an agricultural area, is home to a large number of migrant workers.

The local official noted that 40% of the Hispanic population lacks internet access in California.

School officials in Salinas provided a wireless connection device to the family of the two girls, after learning the tweet, according to a spokesperson for the foundation.

40% of Hispanics do not have an internet in California.
