The French health authorities have withdrawn several batches of Spanish dry sausages after 18 cases of salmonellosis.

Two children were temporarily hospitalized but without "notion of seriousness", according to a press release Thursday.

Between July 8 and August 31, 18 cases of salmonellosis, including 12 in children, were "identified by Public Health France" and "those questioned had all consumed fuet", a dry Spanish sausage, a statement said. disseminated by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Asked by AFP, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) said that two children had been temporarily hospitalized, but that there was "no notion of seriousness" concerning their case.

“The link with the consumption of fuets produced by the Spanish establishment + Embutidos Sola SA + was confirmed on September 1 by the Directorate General for Food, the Directorate General for Health and Public Health France.

Several batches consumed by patients have indeed been found to be contaminated with salmonella, ”detailed the Ministry of Agriculture.

He specifies that a first withdrawal of several batches of suspect fuets, in a single point of sale - a supermarket in Gironde - "had already taken place, as a precaution, from Friday August 21 on the basis of the first elements of the investigation ".

“As of today, in addition, a withdrawal and a recall of all fuets, whatever their presentation (weight, promotional presentation with accessories, seasoning ...), all dates of minimum durability (DDM), and bearing the mark of safety ES-10.12147 / B-CE, will be carried out in the various brands concerned in France, ”specifies the Ministry of Agriculture.

"The health authorities recommend that people who still have the products concerned not to consume them and to return them to the point of sale where they were purchased."

Foodborne illnesses caused by salmonella result in sudden onset gastrointestinal disturbances (diarrhea, vomiting), often accompanied by fever and headaches which generally occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption of contaminated products. .

People who have consumed these products and who have these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor, notifying him of this consumption.

"In the absence of symptoms within 7 days after consumption of the products concerned, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor," he said.
