Nearly 5,000 new cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the past 24 hours, according to figures released Tuesday evening by Public Health France (SpF).

4,982 new cases were confirmed in 24 hours, the national health agency said in the daily report published on its site.

This is more than the 3,082 new cases recorded the day before (the figures for Monday generally mark a decline due to the weekend, with in particular the closure of laboratories), but it is stable compared to Saturday and Sunday (5,400 , against more than 7,000 on Friday).

The test positivity rate (proportion of the number of people tested positive compared to the total number of people tested) continues to increase steadily: 4.3% over the last seven days, against 4.2% on Monday, 4.1% on Sunday and 3.6% last Wednesday.

The number of outbreaks of infection on the rise

In 24 hours, 19 additional patients have died in France, bringing the total to 30,661 since the start of the epidemic.

Of this total, 20,147 died in hospitals, and 10,514 (data from August 31, last figure known) in social and medico-social establishments, including nursing homes, specifies the General Directorate of Health (DGS), in its own daily Tuesday item.

The number of outbreaks of infection (or "clusters") under investigation has increased by 53 in 24 hours, to 378. For its part, the number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care has increased by 15 people. , at 424. The DGS indicates that we are approaching the objective of one million tests set by the government: over the last 7 days, 976,812 tests have been carried out.
