There are no plans to make it mandatory, but it is recommended by the government. Families should do a Covid-19 test before going to visit their elderly parents in nursing homes, in fact advocated Friday the minister responsible for the file, Brigitte Bourguignon.

"When you go to nursing homes or to the home of an elderly person, get tested beforehand and protect yourself," said the Minister for Autonomy, in an interview with  Le Parisien .

"Everything to avoid a general reconfinement"

The government, she recalls, will do "everything to avoid a generalized re-containment of nursing homes", because the isolation, which was certainly "necessary" during the peak of the epidemic, "sometimes generated severe psychological consequences" for old people.

The resources allocated to “psychological support” for seniors will also be increased, she promised.

“People must remain at the heart of our thinking in order to find the right balance between health security” for the elderly and their “freedom”, considers the Minister.

The public authorities will also soon conduct a campaign to promote vaccination against seasonal influenza "aimed at vulnerable groups but also healthcare workers", she said, in order to "avoid the cohabitation of the two viruses, the confusion of diagnoses and the overcrowding of emergencies with cases of influenza ”.
