Take off the masks! The general manager of BFM, Marc-Olivier Fogiel, estimated Monday that it would be "useless, anxiety-provoking and handicapping" to impose the wearing of the mask on the television sets, if moreover are respected other measures barrier against the coronavirus.

"I do not see why we would have masks to give an example, when the sanitary conditions in our premises are extremely well respected", he declared on France Inter.

“Obviously, there are no exceptional measures, journalists do not have a special status which would mean that we do not wear a mask because we are a journalist. On the other hand [in our studios] we have taken all measures to make things safe, ”especially in terms of ventilation and physical distance, he pleaded.

"Not a person has fallen ill on our sets"

"If there was a proven health risk, there would be no reason to depart from a rule, but we have been facing this crisis for several months now and not one person has fallen ill. on our sets ”, he remarked.

On the other hand, BFMTV journalists, when they report in places where the mask has been made compulsory, systematically wear one, including outdoors, he recalled.

Epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet "more comfortable with a mask"

Asked about the RMC / BFMTV antenna on the need to wear a mask on the antenna, epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet, conversely, replied to journalist Jean-Jacques Bourdin: “From a purely health point of view , yes, because we are in a confined space, because you have guests who have a lot of contacts, who are potentially at this asymptomatic phase where they could be virus shedders and therefore put you at risk ”.

The member of the Scientific Council, who was not himself masked, said he understood "completely" the journalistic and technical arguments (sound quality), while adding that he would have been "more comfortable with a mask ”.

Wearing a mask will be compulsory in companies, including in “open spaces”, Minister of Labor Elisabeth Borne announced on Tuesday, joining recent calls made by several infectious diseases specialists to reduce the risk of contamination.

This new rule should apply from September 1, but some are pleading for exceptions within the audiovisual sector.

"It would be penalizing to systematically have a mask"

Questioned Monday on Europe 1, Elisabeth Borne indicated that the protocol which will impose the wearing of the mask in business and the health rules will be "put online no later than next Monday", after opinion of the High Council of Public Health (HCSP) qu 'she asked for possible exemptions going beyond the audiovisual sector.

"I would like us to be able to look at the exemptions that will be possible for activities for which it is very penalizing, and I think that on a set like here, we can clearly see that it would be penalizing to systematically have a mask", she said. "Or, when there are other ways to protect yourself, when we see that we are three employees in 100 square meters, we can imagine that we can dispense with wearing a mask," added the Minister.
