“Shawarma” strikes again in Jordan: Six people from one family were poisoned

Six people from one family were poisoned in Jordan today, Sunday, as a result of eating shawarma meals from a restaurant in the Mafraq governorate in the northeast of the kingdom.

The Jordanian News Agency (Petra) today quoted the governor of Mafraq, Yasser Al-Adwan, as saying that the injured were transferred to Mafraq Governmental Hospital to receive first aid and necessary treatment, pointing out that the restaurant was closed as a precaution.

Late last month, the Jordanian Ministry of Health announced the death of a five-year-old child, and the injury of 700 as a result of suffering mass food poisoning as a result of eating "Sharuma" in a restaurant in Balqa Governorate, northwest of the Jordanian capital.

The Jordanian Minister of Health, Dr. Saad Jaber, revealed at the time that the results of the research proved that the source of poisoning in a group of restaurants is the supply of meat and materials that are served with meals.

He added that 20 facilities were closed in Salt, Sweileh, Ain Al-Basha Brigade, and one restaurant in Amman, in a precautionary way, until the results of laboratory samples that were collected were released, calling on the Public Prosecutor to take all legal measures and hold accountable the negligent and the cause of poisoning cases.
