Coronavirus: 135 euros fine for not wearing a mask in the city center, in Nice - SYSPEO / SIPA

A somewhat enlarged sector. In Nice, where wearing a mask was already compulsory since early August in a large area, the prefect will extend his order on Thursday to the whole city, we learned on Wednesday evening from the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture. This new decree will be immediately applicable, we add.

The prefect thus responds to the request made during the day by the LR mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi. "To limit too strong a spread, to remain consistent in our fight against Covid-19 and so that any doubts about the scope of wearing a mask persist, I would like the wearing of a mask to be compulsory everywhere in Nice", he wrote in a press release.

More than 100 verbalizations per day

While recalling that "the rate of positivity has passed in a few days from 1.2 to 6 and the number of verbalizations drawn up by the municipal police (for not wearing the mask) still exceeds 100 per day" in his town.

Mask-wearing obligations are gradually extending to wider areas in many cities in France. Earlier Thursday, Toulouse was the first major city to make the mask compulsory throughout its territory.
