A senior health official in Russia said today that the Russian vaccine against the emerging corona virus has entered the final testing phase, and it is expected to be officially registered next week.
"Now the stage of final tests is very important. We want to make sure that the vaccine is safe," said Olik Grenev, Deputy Minister of Health, in a statement reported by the Russian "Interfax" agency.
Another senior health official said last month that large quantities of vaccine are expected to be produced in September. The vaccine was developed by the National Jamali Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Research.
And the center announced two months ago that the vaccine resulted in immunity in all those who took the test without side effects.
The vaccine was first tested on donors from the center, then on soldiers of the Russian army, and the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement last week: "There were no side effects, or any abnormal things" among the volunteers from the soldiers. "The results of the research clearly showed that all volunteers had an immune response as a result of receiving the vaccine," she added.
