The department of Mayenne, particularly under scrutiny in recent weeks due to the increase in coronavirus contaminations, seems to have found the solution. After a tightening of health rules, the number of contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants, if it remains high, has fallen significantly.

Mayenne seems to have found how to curb the coronavirus epidemic. Since early July, the virus has been circulating there strongly, to the point of making it the most affected department in mainland France. The authorities have therefore stepped up health measures, even going so far as to mention a re-containment. In recent days, the epidemic figures nevertheless seem to indicate that the situation is once again under control.

The "action plan is going in the right direction"

Indeed, for a few days the curves have been reversed. This is particularly the case with the incidence rate of the coronavirus in the department. It has been divided by three in the last fifteen days, from 150 to 50 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure is still above the alert threshold but the epidemic is under control.

For the director general of the Pays de la Loire regional health agency, this shows that the "action plan is going in the right direction". For several days, the department of more than 300,000 inhabitants has adopted a profitable strategy which relies in particular on the wearing of the mask imposed in public places in 69 municipalities.

The authorities are also carrying out a massive screening: more than 40,000 tests have been carried out over the last two weeks. Positive people have been isolated and placed in quarantine. These measures aim to avoid local re-containment. According to the prefect, the encouraging figures allow this hypothesis to be completely excluded for the moment.
