The month of July ends with another strong increase in the number of infections. The updated report from the Ministry of Health reveals 1,525 new infected people who were tested yesterday . On the other hand, the real data of new positives (where the PCR performed in previous days are included, but whose diagnosis was disclosed in the last 24 hours), is 3,092 . Thus, there are already 288,522 Covid-19 infections since the start of the pandemic.

The alarming increase in outbreaks throughout July has caused daily infections to have multiplied by eight throughout the month . Specifically, the more than 3,000 new cases registered today are far from the 388 that were reported on July 1. A vertiginous growth palpable also in the incidence of the virus. They have gone from four infections per 100,000 inhabitants at the beginning of the month, to 57 today. 14 times higher incidence .

Of the 1,525 new cases that were tested yesterday, one third corresponds to Aragon (511) ; followed by Madrid (372) and the Basque Country (158) .

During the last day, two new deaths have also been reported, bringing the total number of people who have lost their lives to 28,445 . This data excludes deaths from residences and those who had symptoms compatible with Covid-19 but did not undergo a diagnostic test. With death date in the last week, the official count reports 12 deceased.

Of those who died during the last week, four correspond to Catalonia . The Valencian Community reports three; and Castilla y León and Madrid, two. Extremadura, meanwhile, has reported one. The rest of the CCAA has not recorded any deceased during this period of time.

Hospitalizations, in continuous increase

The number of hospitalizations also continues with an increasing trend . Specifically, the official count reveals that in the last 24 hours 472 people have entered during the last week (on the previous day there were 438). Of these, 27 people have entered the ICU (ten more compared to one week) in the same period of time and five in the last 24 hours. Thus, the total admissions in this hospital unit rises to 11,777.

The incessant rise in hospitalizations during this month has been, like the infections, a true reflection of the effects of the increase in outbreaks in our country. Thus, income has tripled in the last thirty days : while between the week of July 24 to July 1, 151 people were admitted to hospitals; the figure during these last seven days has risen to 472.

Spain, the European country with the highest incidence of the virus

Since last Wednesday, Spain continues to lead the European countries with the highest incidence of the virus, with 57.5 infections per 100,000 inhabitants (on the previous day they were 54.1). It is followed by Russia (52.1); Belgium (36.2); and Portugal (30.2).

Likewise, Spain remains in third position by number of infections (288,522) , only behind Russia (834,499) and the United Kingdom (302,301). Italy and Turkey continue in fourth and fifth position, with 247,158 and 228,924 infections, respectively. The country with the highest number of deaths is still the United Kingdom (45,999), followed by Italy (35,132) and France (30,254).
