After more than 50 hours in a coma, the 36-year-old policeman Xia Liang woke up on the morning of July 16.

Tian Xiaojin, the attending doctor, said that Xia Liang was out of danger. Currently, her upper body can move, her lower limbs cannot move, and she cannot speak for the time being.

Xia Liang, who has been in the police for 8 years, is the deputy director of the police station of Xishui County Public Security Bureau in Huanggang City, Hubei Province. Fighting on the front line of flood prevention and disaster relief for 12 consecutive days, on the evening of July 13, when he went home to get a change of clothes and other daily necessities, he suddenly stiffened half of his face, numbed his hands and feet, and fell into a coma and was sent to the hospital urgently.

"Xia Liang is a sudden cerebral hemorrhage, and it will be life-threatening if he is sent later."

  Non-stop risk

On July 2, Xishui County encountered heavy rainfall, and the flood situation in Guankou Town was urgent.

Xia Liang and colleagues took on the tasks of traffic safety and patrol in the area under their jurisdiction. He leads a team every day to investigate hidden dangers on the main roads and dangerous areas, and also conducts inspections on the dangerous situation of the nearby Baiyanghe Reservoir.

On the morning of July 4, heavy rain fell on the ground, and Xia Liang went out to investigate hidden dangers as usual.

At about 10 o'clock, Xia Liang reported to Zhou Jie, the director of the Guankou Police Station, that at the Shuanghe Bridge on Luolan Road, the water level of the river had exceeded the bridge deck by about 50 cm, and a car stopped and stopped in the middle of the road.

This road is the main road from Guankou Town to Luotian County in Huanggang City. If it is not handled in time, it will cause a lot of traffic jams.

Xia Liang immediately contacted the rescue vehicle and set up warning signs at both ends of the bridge to control the road.

The heavy rain is still falling, and the river level has been rising. Xia Liang led a team to divert the vehicles in both directions and advised the drivers to take a detour. He did not return to the police station until his colleagues came to change shifts.

After lunch, Xia Liang did not stop for a moment, so he led the team to start a new round of patrol investigation.

Zhou Jie said that in 3 days, Xia Liang investigated 31 hidden traffic safety hazards and rectified 19, ensuring the safety of vehicles in the area.

  Guarantees do not stop

From the night of July 5 to the morning of July 6, due to continuous heavy rainfall, the water level of the Baiyanghe Reservoir in Xishui County rose, and two dams were in danger of flooding and falling slope.

On the evening of July 6, Xishui County Public Security Bureau organized 180 commandos to participate in emergency rescue. Xia Liang led 15 team members to ensure smooth traffic around the dam. At 9 o'clock in the evening on July 6, a large number of emergency vehicles rushed to the scene from all directions, and several kilometers of road congestion occurred in a short period of time.

"The dam road is narrow, walk on one side..." Chen Fang, a policeman at the Guankou police station, recalled that Xia Liang was standing at the forefront, waiting for a pause, and waves of traffic came one after another. The dam ran back and forth. Xia Liang ran dozens of trips back and forth over the 3km-long dam, which was easily congested, and guided more than 1,600 vehicles. The clothes were completely soaked and covered with mud.

It was not until 15:00 on July 7, after about 20 hours of fierce battle, that the reservoir's danger was initially controlled, and Xia Liang returned to the police station for a short rest.

That night, Xia Liang led the police and auxiliary police to three settlement points in the jurisdiction, patiently comforting and persuading the villagers who had been transferred in emergency. In order to let the villagers rest assured of the family's property, Xia Liang led a team to patrol the five villages along the reservoir overnight.

Not laid off with minor injuries

At 13:00 on July 9, a traffic accident occurred in Guankou Street: a small truck knocked down an old man riding a motorcycle.

After receiving the police, Xia Liang rushed to the scene immediately and contacted 120. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, he has been communicating with the old man beside him to avoid coma with excessive blood loss. Xia Liang and the ambulance staff sent the old man to the hospital. He did not leave the hospital until the old man was out of danger. It was more than 8 o'clock in the evening. He insisted on patrolling the Baiyanghe Reservoir Dam before returning to the police station.

On the evening of July 8, the water level of the Baiyanghe Reservoir had dropped below the warning line, but Xia Liang did not dare to relax for a moment. In addition to handling daily tasks at the police station, he also insisted on patrolling the dam on duty every day.

By July 13, Xia Liang had been on the embankment for 12 consecutive days and had not returned home for half a month. At 10 o'clock on July 13, Zhou Jie and Xia Liang went to inspect the dam together. Suddenly, Xia Liang felt chest tight and dizzy. Zhou Jie asked him to take a rest in the car, but Xia Liang made a little adjustment and insisted on a round of inspection.

On the evening of July 13th, Xia Liang asked the director for two hours of leave to go home to get living items and change clothes. Unexpectedly, less than half an hour after returning home, he suddenly fainted. His wife Xu Yue was frightened-he is usually in good health.

In early July, Xia Liang has been in the police station since he participated in the flood prevention work. The 4-year-old son missed him very much, but the father and son can only chat via video.

Chen Fang, a colleague of Xia Liang, said: "Brother Liang usually works very hard. Working more than twenty hours in a row is commonplace, and sometimes he doesn't sleep much at night."

After graduating from the Public Security Management Department of Hubei Police Academy, Xia Liang worked in the Nancheng Police Station, Tuanbe Police Station and Guanguan Police Station of Xishui County Public Security Bureau successively. personal. In November 2019, he was promoted from the deputy trainer of the Tuanbei Police Station to the deputy director of the Guankou Police Station.

"Xia Liang's work is serious and responsible. He is a very good policeman and is our pride." Zhou Jie said.
