If you experience nausea and vomiting while on vacation, follow the advice of Dr. Jimmy Mohamed.

By car, by boat, by plane ... Are you getting ready to hit the road to go on vacation or to go home and you fear being sick in transport? Follow the advice of Dr. Jimmy Mohamed, doctor and columnist on the health program of Europe 1, Sans Rendez-vous, to fight against motion sickness.

Be careful what you eat

Be careful what you eat before you go. Don't leave with your stomach too full, but not completely empty either. Avoid making a meal that is too large or too fatty just before hitting the road.

Conversely, do not take the road without having eaten. It is best to take a light meal, based on soup or mash.

Choose your place by car

The place you sit can influence the onset of symptoms. For adults, choose the seat next to the driver. As for children, sit them preferably in the back, instead of the middle.

To limit nausea, look far ahead. Above all, avoid reading or looking at a tablet.

Syrup or patches can help

Certain ginger-based medications have been shown to help fight motion sickness. You can find syrups in pharmacies, specially designed for children and available without a prescription.

In adults, when the symptoms are truly disabling, your doctor may prescribe patches that are put behind the ear.
