The "War Veterinary Remains Assessment Center," which was appointed as an external pillar, was newly established in the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on the 16th.

Professor Hideki Asamura of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Shinshu University School of Medicine will be appointed as the director of the center, and about 20 people including staff of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will specialize in scientifically assessing the remains of bones such as DNA assessment.

In the appraisal, we will not only proceed with the identification of individuals, but also check the group of DNA to confirm whether the possibility of Japanese is high.

In addition to this, the center will also research the latest technology regarding ashes evaluation and joint evaluation with foreign appraisers such as the United States.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will regularly receive expert checks from experts to confirm that the remains collection business, including the operation of the center, is being conducted appropriately.
