The family of the Saudi child, Abdulaziz Al-Joufan, aged one and a half, was traumatized by his death after the medical swab was broken inside his nose, when the medical staff at Shaqra General Hospital suspected that he was infected with the Corona virus due to the high temperature.
In the details of the incident, he spoke to "Al Arabiya.net", the assistant of Al-Joufan, the child's uncle and his legal representative, and said: "The child did not have chronic or dangerous diseases, and on Friday evening, he complained of a high temperature, and a blonde hospital with his mother was reviewed, and after Presented to the doctor, he decided that he should take a swab through the nose, even though his health was good and he only suffered from a high temperature.
He added: "The smear was broken inside his nose, so the doctor decided to put him aside and fully anesthetize him to perform an operation, and an operation was performed to extract the smear from the child's nose, and within one o'clock at night, they informed me that the operation was completed, and that the doctor was able to extract the smear from the child's nose."
He continued: "After the operation, the child woke up, and his mother was accompanying him, and she repeatedly asked the nursing staff to be examined by the specialist doctor after the operation and reassured about his condition, and made sure that the swab was completely extracted and the bleeding stopped and ease of breathing, except that the staff explained the absence of the doctor and asked the child's mother to wait ".
According to the testimony of the child's uncle, at about nine o'clock in the morning, the child suddenly lost consciousness, so his mother immediately notified the nurses, found out that he had stopped breathing, and was treated with artificial respiration.
"Then I came to the hospital and asked to call the specialist doctor, who performed x-rays for the child that showed the airway in one of the lungs was blocked according to the radiologist's testimony. When the child's condition deteriorated, I asked to be transferred to a hospital in Riyadh to save his life, and the approval actually came early at 12 and 18 minutes. However, we sat in the hospital, waiting for the ambulance, and it did not arrive for emergencies until exactly one hour and 19 minutes (i.e. after an hour has passed). Nevertheless, we sat waiting for the child to be transported until afternoon prayer and he was not transferred; to announce his death, may God have mercy on him.
Uncle revealed that he submitted a communication to investigate the cause of the unexpected death of the child, and the reasons that prompted the smear to be broken inside the child's nose, as well as about the safety of the total anesthesia process, and the rest of the medical procedures related to dealing with the condition and ceasing to the requirements of medical necessity.
The uncle stated that the father of the child received on the evening of the death, a condolence from the Saudi Minister of Health, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, in which he pledged to follow up on the child's case himself.
Al-Joufan concluded his testimony: “I am awaiting the punishment of the person responsible for the child’s death and protecting society from such practices. The hospital told the family by phone that no official letter was received from the ministry regarding the handover of the child or not, regarding the existing issue, and that they deal with the child’s death as a natural death, The family was asked to come and sign the body, and upon review, they told me that the child would be handed over to the municipality on the pretext of suspecting his condition with symptoms of Corona. The Ministry’s legal counsel, who initiated the case at Shaqra Hospital, confirmed that the order to hand the body back to us, and the investigation is over, the child has been in the refrigerator since 9 Days and they told me by phone that if he refused to receive it, he will be transferred to the freeze so that the body will not be destroyed. "
