Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease coexisting with humans and animals. Nanjing has been actively carrying out schistosomiasis prevention and treatment, seriously carrying out health education, and eliminating snails in Jiangtan. In recent years, there have been no local infections of schistosomiasis patients. However, due to the difficulty of completely removing the source of infection of wild animals and snails, and the impact of some schistosomiasis control areas in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the risk of contracting schistosomiasis along the Yangtze River in Nanjing remains.

  Schistosomiasis infection

  Schistosoma cercariae mainly invade humans and animals through the skin. There are two main ways of infection:

  One is the productive contact with epidemic waters, such as flood fighting and rescue, fishing and other wading operations;

  The second is living contact with epidemic water, such as swimming in the infectious snail area, washing rice, washing vegetables, laundry and drinking epidemic water. Schistosomiasis is caused by human exposure to plague water. Therefore, avoiding or reducing exposure to plague water in production and life is the most effective way to prevent schistosomiasis.

  How to prevent schistosomiasis infection?

  1. Little friends go to the riverside for leisure and play, do not touch the river water, especially the area with schistosomiasis warning signs and warning devices. You should be especially careful when you see these signs! Never wash your hands, feet, swim, or fish here!

  2. Persons who need to contact the river water for special reasons such as flood fighting and emergency rescue can take some protective measures, such as wearing waterproof gloves, rubber boots and other protective equipment, and rubbing protective agents. These measures can greatly reduce the chance of schistosomiasis infection.

  3. Don't worry too much if you come into contact with the river water. You can go to the medical institution in the Yangtze River area for schistosomiasis testing about 1 month after the contact to determine whether you are infected. If the infection is under the guidance of a doctor, oral praziquantel can quickly kill the insects.

  Reminder: For your health, do not touch the river water.

  If you have fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, hepatosplenomegaly and other symptoms about one month after exposure to the river water, you should go to the local hospital for schistosomiasis inspection in a timely manner, confirm the diagnosis as soon as possible, standardize treatment, and reduce harm. If there is no obvious symptoms about one month after exposure to the river water, you can also go to the community health service center in the river area for schistosomiasis screening. Early diagnosis and medication according to doctor's orders can cure schistosomiasis. After curing, do not contact the plague water to avoid re-infection. If you have any questions about schistosomiasis, you can consult your local CDC.

  "Five Provinces in the Lake District" (Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui and Jiangsu Province) are key areas for schistosomiasis control in my country. The rise in water level also gives schistosomiasis lurking in rivers an opportunity. Once a person comes into contact with a water body containing cercariae of schistosomiasis (diseased water), it is very likely to be infected with schistosomiasis, which is a serious health hazard.

  To this end, the Nanjing Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued an important reminder: Do not forget to prevent schistosomiasis during the flood season in the Yangtze River!
