Policy to set numerical standards such as the maximum number of breeding for pet companies Ministry of the Environment July 10, 14:33

The Ministry of the Environment has set a policy for pet shops and breeders that handle dogs and cats to set numerical standards such as the size of cages and the maximum number of breeding animals.

The Animal Welfare Law stipulates that animals that are handled by animals should be kept in cages of sufficient size and that breeding should be done at an appropriate number of times. We were considering to set a numerical standard.

At a study meeting held on the 10th, the Ministry of the Environment proposed a numerical standard for breeding dogs and cats by traders and others.

Among them, the standard size of each cage is twice the body length in the vertical direction and 1.5 times the horizontal length in the horizontal direction, and it is obligatory to secure space for exercise.

In addition, the maximum number of breeding is 15 dogs, 25 cats for breeding per employee, 20 dogs, 30 cats for sale.

As a rule, mating is allowed for dogs and cats up to the age of 6, and only until the child is born a certain number of times until the age of 7.

It is our policy to apply this numerical standard not only to distributors but also to exhibitions such as cat cafes.

Environment Minister Koizumi said at a press conference on the 10th, "I would like to steadily proceed with necessary studies based on the purpose of animal welfare to ensure the health and safety of animals."

The Ministry of the Environment will make public comments inviting a wide range of opinions, determine numerical standards, revise the ministerial ordinance, and implement it by June next year.
