The SNSM and Loire-Atlantique signed this Friday a multi-year agreement over five years committing the department to pay a subsidy of 1.265 million euros which should allow the National Society for Sea Rescue to renew its fleet.

“The subsidies of the departments are voted in the year. So we are still constrained in France with this annuality budget which does not allow to have heavy investments and to build important projects like ours ", explained the president of the SNSM, Emmanuel de Oliveira, rejoicing that the sum is allocated over five years.

Purchase of a brand new ship at Le Croisic in particular

The money will contribute to the purchase of a new vessel to replace the SNSM all-weather canoe at Le Croisic, in Loire-Atlantique, by 2023, but also to supply this station with a new, semi-rigid, complementary boat. all weather canoeing, early 2022 or renovating the association's aging infrastructure.

The logic of this multi-year agreement is to provide "long-term financial security for the SNSM", according to the president of the Loire-Atlantique department, Philippe Grosvalet. "We would like all departments to have a multi-year agreement of the same type with us," said Emmanuel de Oliveira, recalling that his association was funded by the state, local authorities and donations from individuals.

He explained that SNSM was in the process of renewing "its entire fleet of aging ships to acquire very modern lifeboats", which represents a budget of 100 million euros over ten years for 140 ships to be renewed.
