In Lille, where a hundred people had already mobilized Tuesday evening on the Place de la République to denounce the "shame reshuffle", a new meeting is given on the Grand Place to request the "resignation" of two ministers. Other gatherings are planned in front of the courthouses in Marseille and Grenoble, Place de l'Hotel de Ville in Rennes, in front of the prefecture in Angers, as well as in Nantes and Caen.

"The right to the presumption of innocence"

The new interior minister said Thursday "have the right to the presumption of innocence", stressing "that there have been three court decisions, two preliminary investigations have been closed without prosecution and a dismissal rendered by two investigating judges ".

Gérald Darmanin was accused in 2017 of rape by a woman, Sophie Patterson-Spatz, who requested it in 2009, when he was project manager in the legal affairs department of the UMP (party which became LR), in an attempt to to quash a 2004 conviction for blackmail and malicious calls against an ex-boyfriend.

According to his statements, Mr. Darmanin drew her support, and she felt forced to "go to the pan". Mr. Darmanin acknowledged sexual intercourse with this woman but, according to him, freely consented. Initially classified without continuation, the procedure was relaunched by the Paris court of appeal which asked at the beginning of June for new investigations.

For his part, Eric Dupond-Moretti notably estimated in 2018 "that whistling a woman becomes a criminal offense, it's mind-boggling", in the midst of a debate on the creation of a crime of sexist contempt.
