Unknown to the general public, Jean Castex was chosen to succeed Edouard Philippe for several reasons. His appointment to Matignon should notably allow Emmanuel Macron to be deconfigured with a view to the presidential election of 2022 according to Europe 1 political editorialist Michael Darmon.

The choice of Jean Castex, a senior official unknown to the general public but recognized in the spheres of power does not correspond only to the need for Emmanuel Macron to be in the front line for the last part of the quinquennium. By arriving at Matignon, Monsieur Déconfinement at Matignon meets several objectives.

To be clear, Jean Castex, it is not at all the slightly clumsy and transparent collaborator that one could imagine. It's quite the opposite. He is a Gascon with a strong character, a rugby player who knows what he wants and who is not afraid of fighting. In fact the new Prime Minister is anything but bland. He is a solid man whose mission is to reconnect with the territories and local elected representatives, a vital issue for the President.

And that is the difference with his predecessor Édouard Philippe, who said he was clearly from the right. Jean Castex claims to be a social Gaullist, that is to say in overcoming the divisions. Emmanuel Macron therefore chose a man likely to lead a social policy rather than a leftist responsible for flattering the right. In short, the President asked Jean Castex to make Castex.

Jean Castex is the high official from below, in a way, he's the right techno in his shoes. As we can see, the mission of Monsieur Déconfinement at Matignon is to deconfinate Emmanuel Macron for 2022.
