Carmen Cervera has named her son Borja Thyssen patron of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, sources at the museum have confirmed to Europa Press.

Likewise, the museum has reported the resignation of Miguel Satrústegui as the museum's government patron for his "disagreement with the role that the Museum Board has had so far in decisions regarding the renewal of the loan from the collection of Baroness Carmen Thyssen -Bornemisza ", according to these same sources.

These changes take place weeks after the decision of Baroness Thyssen to take Gauguin's works 'Mata Mua' from the museum ; 'Racing Horses in a Landscape', by Degas; Hopper's 'Martha Mckeen of Wellfleet' and Monet's The Charing Cross Bridge.

These works were part of the loan from the collection owned by Carmen Thyssen signed in 1991 with a duration of ten years and since then it has been renewed annually since 2011. However, in early 2017 the Baroness claimed the Ministry of Culture a new framework for relations with the State, since it understood that the 2002 contract was "obsolete".

Since then, the Ministry, initially with Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, later with José Guirao at the helm and now with José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, have held negotiations with Carmen Thyssen for the signing of a new contract that has forced the State guarantee to be periodically renewed of the 429 works.

The Government extended a few days ago until September 30, 2020 the State guarantee for 425 works that are part of the Collection, but the work 'Mata Mua' no longer appears in it, so the works insured on this occasion they are one less compared to the previous extension and the value that the State grants to the set of works -without the aforementioned piece- is 25.7 million less: from 390.6 million euros the previous guarantee goes to 364.9 million euros of the current one.
