Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, the global alliance for vaccines and immunization, has been awarded the 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation , as the jury just announced.
Gavi is an international consortium made up of various public and private entities, whose main objective is to facilitate access to vaccines for infectious diseases in the least developed countries.
With special attention to childhood vaccination, Gavi calculates that, since its creation, it has achieved the immunization of more than 760 million children worldwide , a figure that is added by some 200 million more participants in various sporadic vaccination campaigns. .
This candidature has been proposed by Amador Menéndez, member of the jury of the Princess of Asturias Award for Scientific and Technical Research 2020. Exceptionally, on the occasion of the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was held through video conference.
