Artists continue to use their celebrity to demand accountability for deaths during police checks. Ariana Grande and Ellen DeGeneres got together to tell the story of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old black man, who died in August 2019 a year during a police check. As CBS4 reports, police in Aurora, Colorado received a call mentioning a "bizarre behavior" black man on the street.

What worried the interlocutor: Elijah McClain wore a ski mask, but clarified that he was unarmed and that he had committed no crime. He died following two heart attacks, which occurred when the officers who came to control him gave him a choke key.

As the local station said, the on-board cameras worn by the officers "were moved", except one, which fell on the ground and which continued to film. We can hear Elijah McClain say that he is unarmed, did nothing, cannot resist arrest, and that he is introverted, vegetarian and incapable of harming anyone. Until one of the police officers asked his colleague, "move your camera, man."

That the beginning

The call of Ellen DeGeneres and Ariana Grande has taken effect. Colorodo’s attorney’s office, Jared Polis, received more than 10,000 calls, 2,000 emails, and a petition signed by more than 2 million people. It is therefore impossible to look elsewhere. Jared Polis has vowed to "examine what the state (of Colorado) can do and take the next step."

I am hearing from many Coloradans who have expressed concerns with the investigation of Elijah McClain's death. As a result, I have instructed my legal council to examine what the state can do and we are assessing next steps. (2/2)

The mayor of the city of Aurora, Mike Coffman, has organized a special city council at which it will be voted on whether or not an independent inquiry should be commissioned.

On the other hand, the three police officers involved in the death of the 23-year-old young man are still active and have not been worried.

The road promises to be long so that all the light is shed on the death of Elijah McClain, who returned from the supermarket where he had bought tea and used, according to his family, to wear a ski mask for "His personal comfort following previous problems".
