  • More than a month after the end of the investigation by the anti-terrorist judges in the Nice attack, the Prosecutor's Office has unveiled its requisitions. He asked that the nine suspects be returned to the meeting.
  • The final decision on a trial in the Assize Court will be taken by the judges.
  • The Nice attack on National Day, July 14, 2016, left 86 dead and over 400 injured.

"This is a step to rebuild, for me and for others," says Jean-Claude Hubler, president of the association of victims of the Nice attack, Life for Nice. The one who describes himself as a "psychological victim" of this terrorist attack reacts to the request of the National Counterterrorism Prosecutor's Office (Pnat), announced this Tuesday morning, to send nine suspects to assize.

"After the truck had passed, I stayed there for three hours next to the victims," he says. On July 14, 2016, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel rushed to the crowd who came to enjoy the National Day fireworks on the Promenade des Anglais. The assailant was shot dead by law enforcement while driving the rental vehicle that evening. A total of 86 people died and more than 400 people were injured.

"We remain cautious and cautious"

The requisition of the prosecution will be examined, and the final decision is up to the investigating judges, who will confirm or not this trial at the assizes. A positive step in the legal proceedings, according to Sophia Seco, of Fenvac, the main association of victims in France, even if "caution" is required: "We are rather expecting the decision of the final court. SureBasically, we remain cautious and cautious because we are not immune to correctionalization ”.

An option that would minimize the alleged facts. "Leaving the confines of an assize court means reducing the echo of the case while the assize court sanctifies the facts for the victims," explains Sophie Seco.

"A deficiency in education"

On the side of the lawyer in charge of the files of the Promenade des Anges association, Jérémie Assous, these requisitions are not a surprise but exactly those announced by the examining magistrates more than a year ago".

However, he points to a "lack of education": "It could have demonstrated the responsibility of the administrative and municipal authorities for the consequences of this attack". "How is it that they didn't make the decision that other municipalities were making at the time?" In the placement of studs? We were after November 13! "

Safety on the Promenade des Anglais that evening had, in fact, been the subject of a very heated controversy in the summer of 2016. And of an investigation. An instruction is indeed still in progress in Nice on the device in place that evening. The investigations did not lead to an indictment, leaving open the possibility of dismissal.
