The new test to detect the coronavirus, dubbed "EasyCov", will be launched in the coming weeks. His particuliarity ? It is a saliva test with reliability as good as a PCR test, according to its designers, but with much less constraints.

Faster result, lower cost, less unpleasant test to do than the PCR test ... the promise of the designers of EasyCov, the new test to detect the coronavirus marketed in the coming weeks, has everything to celebrate. But, in detail, how does this test work? Here are some explanations.

First, the results should be available about an hour after the test, compared to 24 hours currently with a PCR test. Then, its price will rise to 45 euros, therefore half the price of the previous tests. Finally, finished the cotton swab to be inserted deep into the nose: it is now enough to scratch under the patient's tongue and heat the sample to 65 degrees with reagents; and this for 30 minutes.

Not reimbursed by Social Security

The test would therefore be more easily deployable in airports, for example, to test travelers from countries at risk or in a company that wishes to offer tests to its employees.

A problem all the same, despite a first study which assesses the effectiveness of EasyCov at the same level as a PCR test, this saliva test will not be reimbursed by Social Security. And, most importantly, its deployment seems to be taking longer than expected. Announced for June, it will not be available until, at best, early July.
