Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2 Investigation in the pool for removal of remaining nuclear fuel June 10 22:19

From the 10th, TEPCO started an investigation in the pool using an underwater robot to remove the nuclear fuel remaining in the spent fuel pool of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 2. It will be the first time that the Unit 2 fuel pool will be investigated after the accident, and it will be checked for any falling objects or deformed fuel that may prevent removal.

The spent fuel pool of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 is 10 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 12 meters deep, leaving 615 nuclear fuels, and TEPCO will begin to take them out as early as 2024.

Toward this end, TEPCO started an investigation in the pool using an underwater robot equipped with a camera before 10:00 am on the 10th.

The underwater robot was operated remotely, and in a hut on the hill, the survey was carried out for about 2 hours on the 10th while watching the monitor showing the nuclear fuel in the water and the case containing the fuel.

This will be the first time that the Unit 2 fuel pool will be inspected, and it will be checked to see if there are any fallen objects that hinder the removal or deformation of the nuclear fuel.

In the 10th survey, no damage or deformation of the nuclear fuel was found, and white deposits were confirmed on the fuel case, but TEPCO does not expect it to interfere with the removal of the nuclear fuel.

If all goes well, the survey will end on the 12th.
