Tobias Berggren was born in Stockholm in 1940 and debuted in 1969 with the collection of poems The necessary is not clear. He wrote a total of eight collections of poems, the last one, Intifada, was published in 2008.
"It is difficult to summarize a deed that extends over such a long time, but undoubtedly Tobias Berggren was a very significant poet," says Daniel Sandström, literary director at Bonnier's publishing house for TT.
Tobias Berggren was also active during his career as a cultural journalist, translator and literary critic, and has worked for, among others, Aftonbladet and Bonnier's literary magazine.
Tobias Berggren passed away on Monday night at Södersjukhuset in Stockholm.
- He has been ill for quite some time. It was an undramatic death and he had peace, his son, Johan Berggren tells DN.
