We know a little more about the famous "learning holidays" that await (perhaps) your child this summer. Saturday, National Education has indeed announced the release of an envelope of 200 million euros to finance this device which should allow "a million" students to catch up during the summer the delay accumulated since the beginning of containment caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

This device should allow all children to go on vacation to "have fun while catching up on some of what could not be done during the school year" marked by the closure of schools, said the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer in an interview with the daily newspaper Ouest-France .

Free for the most modest families

"We are going to put 200 million in four operations which will allow a million children and young people to have fulfilling and educational holidays, completely free for the most modest families, whose children will be priority", adds Jean-Michel Blanquer .

The objective therefore: to fight against school delays and "the risks of dropping out", but also to "support families", while "normally, about one in three children does not go on vacation", according to a press release from the ministry. The government wants in particular to finance “250,000 departures” in “learning” summer camps, including “200,000” places reserved for “young people from the priority districts of the city”, specifies in the same interview to Ouest-France the Secretary of State to the Gabriel Attal Youth.

For children from 3 to 17 years old

These summer camps, intended for 3-17 year olds, will also benefit the children of personnel "essential to the management of the health crisis" or those "having dropped out of distance education due to lack of Internet equipment", according to the ministry.

"Educational game" and "school remobilization" for students who drop out will also be on the program of airy "learning" centers, which could accommodate 300,000 children, according to Gabriel Attal. For this, the government promises "exceptional one-off aid of 30 million euros" to local authorities "in order to facilitate the opening of leisure centers, to increase their reception capacities or to reinforce educational content".

Looking for 25,000 teachers

Some "50,000" young people under the age of 17 are also called upon to do "open truancy school" this summer, "in the countryside or in a coastal area to discover nature and local heritage", poster Jean-Michel Blanquer .

The Minister is also counting on the summer opening of 2,500 schools, from primary to high school, in cities and rural areas, for educational support activities for 400,000 students.

For these "open schools", previously limited to the priority districts of the city, "we will need 25,000" teachers, "that is five times more than today", estimates Jean-Michel Blanquer.
