A trial operation of a robot using AI = artificial intelligence technology has started in Hamamatsu City to identify people without a mask and call on them to help prevent infection with the new coronavirus.

This robot was jointly produced by a manufacturing company in Hamamatsu City and an NPO corporation, and installed on the tourist information center in Naka-ku, Hamamatsu City on the 4th.

The robot is in the shape of the Hamamatsu city mascot character, "Iseyasu Ieyasu-kun," and is about 30 cm tall. It uses a small camera and AI technology to identify whether or not the visitor is wearing a mask. .

The robot bows while saying "Thank you" to the person wearing the mask, but calls "Wearing the mask is effective in preventing infectious diseases" to those who do not.

Mr. Mitsuo Natsume, who was involved in the production of the robot, said, "We used the technology originally developed to prevent suspicious persons wearing masks."

This robot is scheduled to start general sale around the end of this month after repeated operation tests, and the price is about 100,000 yen.
