She comes out of a long sleep ... The Citadel of Besançon, closed since the beginning of confinement, welcomes visitors again from this Tuesday, June 2, at slightly modified hours: it opens one hour later than habit.

However, not all spaces will be open to lovers of one of Vauban's masterpieces: museums and enclosed animal spaces (the insectarium, the noctarium, naturalium, the aquarium) remain closed. But the Parc Saint-Etienne, the fortress enclosure, the walkways and the famous zoological garden, one of the most visited places in Franche-Comté, will find the public.

Mandatory mask at the zoo

Everything was done for the safety of visitors: “We have defined inaccessible areas and a sense of visit. We worked on posters, communication on networks, signage on the ground. There will be hydroalcoholic gel for visitors. The cleaning frequency is tripled ”, explained, a few days earlier, Valérie Guy, director of the Citadel, to 20 Minutes .

The monument team has long wondered about wearing a mask. Should we make it mandatory, or not? Finally, it will be “compulsory in all interior spaces as well as in the zoo”, and simply “recommended” on the rest of the site.

"We were only waiting for one thing, which is to reopen"

To allow this reopening, the Citadel has gradually started up again. From May 11 to June 2, 40 employees found their way back to their prestigious workplace, out of a total of 77. Staff who were keen to put themselves in the shoes of their hosts. "All of our agents have wondered what visitors will experience," explains the director, who adds: "When I see all of its employees who want to come back, it gives me a potato!" "

Will the Bisontins and the Francs-Comtois be there? It is the "big unknown," said Valérie Guy. But not enough to undermine the director's morale: “We were only waiting for one thing to reopen. We are frustrated without visitors. You have to take care of the trivial things, like being together. "
