Ladoum sheep
By: Sayouba Traoré
The Ladoum sheep is a real star in sheep farming in the Sahel. It is an improved breed obtained thanks to a cross between the azawad and the toubabir, local species.
Publicity
Ladoum is so prestigious among breeders that it is not intended for consumption. Because this sheep breed has a high market value, and it is developing a very lucrative business.
With the leaders of the Ladoum Mauritania Club and the animators of the Copelma cooperative, active in Mauritania and Senegal, we are going to play border-crossing in Senegal and in Mauritania, from one bank to the other of the Senegal river.
These two associative structures have the sole objective of sharing the best practices of sheep farming adapted to the Mauritanian terroir. This type of farming is a break with transhumant farming. Indeed, traditional breeding condemned the breeder to cover kilometers in search of fodder and water, for a zero economic result. And it's even more difficult during the long dry season.
Guests:
- Ibrahim Ndiaye , breeder and president of the Copelma cooperative, creator and administrator of the Collectif Club Ladoum Mauritanie
- Thibault Delafont , initiator and member of Copelma.
