Comic strip artist Eric Schreurs passed away at the age of 61. He was best known for his comic books about Joop Klepzeiker .

Schreurs died of the consequences of heart failure, reports the NOS .

More than one million copies of the comic books starring anti-hero Joop Klepzeiker and his inseparable dog Harrie were sold. The books were known for their crude humor and many sexual innuendos.

In the early eighties Schreurs started drawing the comics for the Nieuwe Revue , the first album followed in 1984. A total of nineteen albums were released. The last of these came out in 2003. A number of special editions were also released.

Van Schreurs also published other less well-known comics such as Geharrebar and Dick van Bil . In 2002 he was awarded the comic strip prize for his entire oeuvre.
