Taylor Swift, in concert at L'Olympia, Paris, September 9, 2019. - Dave Hogan

EDIT May 19, 2020:  City of Lover , Taylor Swift's concert at Olympia, has been available since May 18 on the Disney + platform. It will also be broadcast on NRJ on Thursday midnight. In September 2019, 20 Minutes attended the show and delivered this report.

Taylor Swift and France had not met on stage since 2011. That year, the American singer had performed at the Zenith in Paris, without filling it. And since then, nothing in France except for promotional sessions. Meanwhile, the American has become an international mega-star with 50 million albums sold and ten Grammy Awards gleaned from hundreds of other awards. It is therefore an understatement to say that the artist's concert at L'Olympia on Monday was an event. The show being private, the 2,000 people who applauded it were invited or won their place thanks to a competition.

For his reunion with the Parisian public - but not only, 37 nationalities were represented in the audience -, Taylor Swift did in sobriety, dressed in black and silver reflections, surrounded by musicians and singers in a stripped decor. In just over an hour, she has chained fifteen pieces. Tubes - Blank Space , I Know You Were In Trouble  and, of course, Shake It Off in conclusion - and the titles of his seventh album, Lover , released in late August.

The fan base is expanding

A clean (too?) Service, without a hitch, which allowed him to demonstrate to those who were unaware of the extent of his abilities. The singer-songwriter introduced almost each song by telling the context of their writing and launched herself, in the middle of the show, in an intimate tunnel, accompanying herself on the piano or on the guitar. The audience will thus have had the premiere of the acoustic versions of Death By A Thousand Cuts , Cornelia Street and The Man .

At the exit, the fans were thrilled. Margaux, a 27-year-old Parisian, has already applauded her idol five times, but the concert at L'Olympia is the one she has been waiting for the most. So much so that she arrived there six hours before the start of the show. “Since the time we expected in France, it has not disappointed us. The fans sang so loud that it was sometimes difficult to hear her voice, "she explains after noting that the singer" interprets her old hits with much more maturity and intensity than there are a few years ”.

Same enthusiasm for Clément, 28, who describes himself as an “early fan”. The proof, he arrived in front of the room Monday… at 5 am to be at the front row. If Taylor Swift's showcase “dazzled” him, the young man was surprised to note “the strong growth of his fan base. "And to explain:" I think we showed her that she has a lot of people behind her despite her absence on French territory. Is America's little fiancée on the verge of becoming the darling of France?
