This article continues from part one.

Korea's first space science fiction movie, 'Sungri-ho' (pictured above) announced its release in August. With a total production cost of 24 billion won (estimated), the breakeven point is 6.4 million viewers (estimated). About 1,600 to 1,700 screens can be secured. However, there are still around 150,000 audiences over the two days on the domestic weekend. Less than 10% of last year.

Because of their social distance, theaters have introduced a single-line, or staggered system. Even if you have more than 1,000 screens, your actual revenue seats are less than half. This is not the only situation. Targeting the summer market, the situation is similar for 'Peninsula' (hereinafter distributed as Next Entertainment World), 'Hero' (CJENM), and 'Alone' (Lotte Culture Works).
Jung-hoon Yoo, CEO of Merry Christmas, which distributes and distributes Seung-Ho's investment, said he was considering a new profit strategy in the midst of Corona 19.

Q. Seung-ho is forced to think about the global market in terms of profits.

From the beginning, I went to see the global market. So I was worried about how to take the movie's worldview itself. What world is 2092 in the movie, what is going on, and what are people doing? What global story will take place in this worldview? These things become the basis for expanding the IP (intellectual property) itself beyond the movie 'Sung-ri-ho' in the future. The main characters are Koreans, but a global story flows, and various characters emerge. There are really variety characters such as foreign actors.

** IP (Intellectual Property Rights) refers to the concept of grouping creative worldviews and character settings into one property right and using them for various contents such as movies, dramas, games, and webtoons. Examples include Marvel's Heroes, Disney's Princesses, American Star Wars and Japanese Gundam.
Q. Still, the break-even point in Corona19 is too high.

I am worried that the number of confirmed people will increase again due to the Itaewon Club incident. Corona19 I'm worried, but the film business hasn't always had a lot of risk in the past. When the movie was released, a series of events broke out. Now I can't think of opening a theater. We are trying to secure a profit line on the Netflix side as well as target the Chinese market.

Q. Netflix and China need more explanation.

First, in China, Corona19 is similar to ours. The worst is off. The theaters are expected to open again in June. Chinese partners are as interested in the 'Seung-Li-Ho' brand as we are. We also want to release it properly in China.

Overseas rights have been handed over to Netflix. It will be released on Netflix at a reasonable time after the movie. The SF genre is a popular material abroad. Also, with Netflix, I think there are a number of possibilities open to future expansions of Seungho's IP and drama types.
In line with the release of the movie, a webtoon of the content of the movie Pre-Qual (previous story of the main story) will also be released on the cacao page. This is a story of what the characters in the movie were doing in the pre-film period. I used a slightly moving alive technique. Later, Prequell itself may be filmed, or Sequel (the story behind the main story). In this way, we want to make it enjoyable for consumers in webtoons, movies and other genres. I think that this is not the future strategy of the movie industry, rather than just to overcome Corona 19.

The interview with Yu was conducted for about 40 minutes. We will talk again after opening. After the interview, news was reported that Bong Joon-ho's 2013 movie 'The Snow Country Train' will be broadcast as a drama on the 17th from the American broadcaster TNT. (Domestic viewers can watch it through Netflix starting on the 25th.) French comic book in 1982 → Movie in 2013 → Pre-Qual Webtoon → The Snow Country train in 2020. Is it possible to win? Also, how applicable is this global IPization to our film industry? These are the stories we will talk about once again about the opening performance of Seungho.
