Avigan Approves new corona drug The review policy is significantly shortened at 20:58 on May 4

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will approve “Abigan”, which was developed by a domestic pharmaceutical company and is expected to have a therapeutic effect on the new coronavirus, as a therapeutic drug by the end of this month.

Regarding the therapeutic drug for new coronavirus, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is proceeding with the “special approval” procedure to simplify the domestic examination of the drug approved for overseas use for “lemdecivir” already developed in the United States, It is expected to be approved in about a week.

Apart from this, the influenza drug “Abigan” developed by a Japanese pharmaceutical company is also expected to have a therapeutic effect on the new coronavirus, so the government plans to approve it this month.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, "Abigan" has been administered to approximately 3000 patients in Japan by the 4th as part of the research, and clinical studies are also being conducted at Fujita Medical University Hospital in Aichi Prefecture.

As a result, the “special approval” cannot be applied unlike “lemdecivir”, which is approved for use overseas, but the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has drastically shortened the approval procedure, which usually takes about one year. The policy is to proceed with the examination.

However, it has been pointed out that "Abigan" may have side effects on the fetus in animal experiments so far.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare says, "The examination period will be as short as possible, but side effects and doses will be carefully considered before making a decision."
