[Commentary] On April 28th, another new coronavirus inactivated vaccine launched a clinical trial in Henan. So far, four new coronavirus vaccines in China have entered the clinical trial stage, and every vaccine that enters the clinical trial cannot be separated from animals Model testing. On the 29th, a reporter from China News Service interviewed Qin Chuan, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, on the issue of animal experiments on new coronavirus in Beijing.

[Explanation] Qin Chuan introduced that animal models refer to scientists using various technical means to make animals imitate the human disease process to the greatest extent, and ultimately achieve the purpose of studying infection and pathogenesis, transmission routes, drugs and vaccine evaluation. So far, the Qinchuan team has conducted animal experiments for nine vaccines, ensuring that the world ’s first adenoviral vector vaccine and the first batch of inactivated vaccines have successfully entered clinical trials.

The adenovirus carrier vaccine and two inactivated vaccines we evaluated have accurate protection effects, and some mRNA vaccines are currently in the laboratory. The data after the evaluation are complete. They have already reported to the FDA and the key research team, and they have entered the clinical trial. The other evaluation data is still in the process of being collated. From the experimental data, the protection ability is positive, and it also proves that it is safe.

[Explanation] Qin Chuan said that when the virus attacks the vaccinated animals, if the virus in most animals is effectively suppressed and the lesions are improved, it can be judged that the vaccine is effective.

Our criteria for pathological evaluation are very strict. We take the entire tissue of the lungs, the lungs are lobed, and several lung lobes, we have to examine each lobe one by one, and to what extent is its lesion, we In order to judge it as effective and to what extent its viral load has dropped, we can judge it as effective.

[Commentary] So, judging from the research, is the vaccine the best way to defend against the new coronavirus? Qin Chuan said that during the experiment, her team found that animal models will not be infected again after being infected with new coronavirus to produce antibodies. This can be speculated that the antibodies induced by the vaccine also have a protective effect on the human body.

After our animals have produced antibodies, they have been infected for a period of time. It should be theoretically said that it has entered the stage of healing. At this stage, animals have had a second virus infection. What is the result of this infection? It means that it is no longer infected. Rhesus monkeys are infected with the new coronavirus for the second time, and will not be infected again. It can basically be inferred that this patient's recovery, and after producing antibodies, can protect the body from secondary infections, we can also speculate that the vaccine immune induction is effective After the protective antibody, it can also protect the body from the infection of the new corona virus to a certain extent.

[Explanation] However, in response to the previously reported "rejuvenation" of patients, Qin Chuan said that the premise of no secondary infection is to produce good immunity, if there is no suitable immunity, or there are fewer antibodies in the body, Whether a secondary infection will occur will require further research.

[Explanation] In addition, as an animal experiment expert, Qin Chuan pointed out that although animal models can show that animals are also infected with new coronavirus and show symptoms similar to humans, for domestic companion animals, it is speculated that they are not transmitted by new coronavirus source.

What the current results should be able to know is that it is indeed passed on to our pets by humans, and companion animals like dogs and cats, and their own bodies are not infected with such a coronavirus. So it (pet) is not a source of transmission, it should be said that it is not an intermediate host.

[Commentary] Qin Chuan suggested that the owner and pets should be "intimate" to protect each other's health and safety.
