Masks reusable 20 times
"With the rapid ramp-up of production and the increase in imported volumes, more than 26 million masks for the general public, most of which can be reused 20 times, will be made available every week from the end of April," said affirmed the Secretary of State for the Economy Agnès Pannier-Runacher during a telephone press conference.
According to her, almost half of these fabric filter masks, most often washable and reusable, will be imported and the rest produced in France thanks to the "exceptional mobilization" of the textile industry, with 242 companies that will manufacture them. "This mobilization demonstrates the capacity and know-how of the French textile and clothing industry which continues to grow in strength", welcomed Guillaume de Seynes, president of the Strategic Committee of the "Fashion and Luxury" sector. », Also present at the press conference.
10 million FFP2 and surgical masks per week
These masks will bear a logo which will indicate the number of possible washes. As regards FFP2 and surgical sanitary masks, intended for health professionals, production increased from 3.5 million masks per week before the crisis, "to a weekly production of 10 million masks in April", a clarified Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
"We are strengthening the production capacities of the four historic manufacturers established in France (Kolmi, Boye, Valmy, Macopharma)" with the aim of producing 20 million masks per week by the end of May, "she explained.
According to her, the efforts led by the government and the actors of this sector should "bring the weekly production capacity to 50 million surgical masks and FFP2 by October". France needs 40 million masks per week for nursing staff and establishments for the elderly.
