According to a Belgian study, jogging is a more contagious activity than walking at normal speed, to go shopping, for example. Scientists recommend a distance greater than the current rules, which could be up to 10 meters between two joggers, to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

Is it reasonable to run in the middle of a coronavirus epidemic? The debate is raging, but the rules are clear: jogging is not prohibited, provided you stay less than a kilometer from your home - sometimes less depending on the municipality, less than an hour, and at certain times only if you live in Paris. In the capital, it is now to run after 10 am and before 7 pm, and the sidewalks are sometimes overrun with joggers in the evening, raising fears that the measure is counterproductive: can the virus be transmitted from an athlete to another person, even without contact?

A distance of 10 meters recommended for jogging

According to a Belgian study published a few days ago, carried out using software usually used to increase the performance of athletes, jogging is indeed a contagious activity for the spread in aerosol of a virus like Covid-19. By modeling running, but also cycling and walking, scientists have realized that the virus could indeed be transmitted in the air - assuming that it can then survive on different surfaces, always at the study.

CORONAVIRUS ESSENTIALS

> Can France hope for a more favorable scenario than Italy?

> Are women and people with blood type O more resistant?

> Are certain serious forms linked to a genetic factor?

> How will the distribution of masks take place in France?

> Back to school on May 11: under what conditions?

> How to keep sleep during confinement?

The authors of this study recommend a few stricter rules than those recommended by the authorities: rather a distance of 4 to 5 meters between two people who walk quickly one behind the other, rather 10 meters for jogging, and 20 meters for cycling at high speed.
