The International Village usually hosts the pavilions of each country within the Film Market - F. Binacchi / ANP / 20 Minutes

The Cannes Film Festival is about climbing the stairs and glamor, but also business. Every year, alongside the competitions, the Film Market, the congress which takes place inside the palace, brings together filmmakers, producers and distributors from around the world. Usually more than 12,000 accredited. Deprived of Croisette because of a global pandemic, all this little world will find itself… on the Internet this year.

The organizers of the festival announced this Friday the first of the new "forms" that this 2020 edition marked by the coronavirus should take. The “Online Film Market, created to support the international film industry and help professionals” will “take place from June 22 to 26,” they say.

Without the “Cannes experience”

In particular, it will offer “virtual stands” where “sales companies can get in touch with buyers and present their new films and projects in progress”. And also “virtual pavilions” in which “institutions around the world will present their national cinematography, their film commissions and filming locations”.

Conferences and especially screenings will also be organized. "We will not replace the Cannes experience, but we are recreating part of its essence online," said Jérôme Paillard, the deputy director of the film market. It is also the experimentation of a new market model that will allow professionals who did not have the means or the time to come to Cannes to participate. »Accreditations from € 95 will be offered from € 95.
