This is one of the TV successes of this period of confinement: the show Tous en cuisine with Cyril Lignac, on M6, is so successful that production hopes to see it continue after the deconfinement. Matthieu Jean-Toscani, the producer, analyzes the reasons for the success on Europe 1.

Who Said TV Was Dead? It was announced in decline, soon devoured by Netflix ... and yet, it has recovered since the confinement of the French. Audiences are climbing and the French had not consumed as much television since the time when France Telecom launched its Be Bop. Among the successes of the moment, there is a program that has been much talked about since its launch:  Tous en cuisine with Cyril Lignac, at 6:45 pm on M6.

2.1 million viewers on average

Launched as a special program on Saturday March 21, this live cooking class became a daily on the following Tuesday, to settle down as one of the new favorite meetings for French viewers. On average, Tous en cuisine has attracted 2.1 million viewers every night since its launch. On April 13, last Monday, she broke her record with 2.5 million, which is also a record audience for M6 at this time for 6 years.

And word of mouth works: the audience grew by 30% between the launch week and this week. "We have always believed in live cooking, a project that we have campaigned for for quite a few years on M6. We believed in live cooking and live, because I think that these types of programs can save linear television ", reveals Matthieu Jean-Toscani, the producer of the show, who nevertheless claims not to have expected such a success.

"It is a good alignment of the planets: it meets all that the French need at the moment. It is a service program; we try to brighten up the culinary everyday life of the French every day, to find a solution inexpensive with easy recipes and a touch of happiness - because it's more than just cooking, it's a moment of conviviality. It was the only television offer where we weren't in the news, just in something that is good from all points of view. "

Backstage technical challenge

The magic of live, a way to save TV, but which requires heavy organization. "The basic criterion, when we thought about the concept, was that we shouldn't be pushing people to go shopping every day. So we had a reflection of weekly races", details the producer of Tous en cuisine.

"Another technical constraint, the difficulty of which is not appreciated, is to manage to design a dinner in 50 minutes, starter / main course or main course / dessert, with all the interactions with people, the ad break. . This requires a lot of work for the teams in preparation, and for Cyril because he tests the recipes every day. We make a first technical spinning every day at 11 am, to see what works, we revise ... c is actually technical. "

"We dream of continuity"

The success of the show also contrasts with the difficulty of its competitor TF1 which is struggling to replace Tomorrow belongs to us in prime-time access. Neither 7 to 8 daily nor The great blooper at home have managed to settle down. In the meantime M6 benefits, and since March 26 at this time, the chain ranks leader on the commercial target of women responsible for purchases under 50 years.

Inevitably, when you have such success in your hands, a question arises: can it survive deconfinement? "We dream of continuity. But I think it corresponds to a moment. People are confined, Cyril too. After, how to continue it ... We think about it of course because we don't want to break this link that we have built with viewers. But in what way, today we do not have the answer, "reveals Matthieu Jean-Toscani.

A future all the more difficult to set up that once deconfigured, Cyril Lignac will resume his many other activities ... including his job as a restaurateur. But the producer also told us that the show could come back for specific times of the year. Case to follow!
