The containment is decidedly bad for young people. After four weeks locked up at home, 46% of 18-30 year olds fear for their mental health, according to the latest barometer “#MeYoung, confined and tomorrow? ", Heyme - 20 Minutes - OpinionWay *. This is manifested by regular or occasional blues or depression for 62% of them. 51% have sleep disturbances and 18% of young people even admit to having anxiety attacks.

What worries them? It's not the Covid-19 itself, since their level of concern is only 3.3 out of 10 (down 0.3 points from the previous week). On the other hand, the consequences of confinement are badly felt on their morale. 55% of young people cite lack of freedom and loneliness as the elements that have the most impact on their mental health. "These are two important pillars of youth," says Luc Balleroy, CEO of OpinionWay.

Worried about their future and that of the world

But at the time of the most serious economic crisis in our country since 1945, they are also wondering about their student or professional future (45%) and the world that we will have to face (44%).

These uncertainties are not without consequences for their physical health. If we can smile when we find that 42% of 18-30 year olds say they eat more chocolate, we can be worried that 18% of young people have increased their consumption of alcohol and 14% their consumption of cigarettes. As for breaking the confinement, 13% admit having already done so and 20% say they are ready to do so.

While the President has announced an additional four weeks of confinement, it remains to be seen how this extension will be perceived. "Does the term of May 11 open the door to a close exit or does it take shape like a Stations of the Cross," wonders Luc Balleroy. Answer in the next barometer.
