  • The Pays-de-la-Loire region suffers from a lack of disposable gowns and aprons.
  • The ARS and the regional council will buy them for an amount of three million euros.
  • In parallel, they launch a call for donations.

If the coronavirus crisis affects the Pays-de-la-Loire less severely than the majority of other French regions, the stock of protective equipment used by healthcare personnel has nevertheless considerably reduced. Overcoats and single-use plastic aprons are running out. At least 250,000 gowns and two million additional aprons would be necessary to meet the needs of health establishments, Ephad and medico-social establishments.

"The needs are significant and recurrent as long as the Covid-19 epidemic is there", explains the regional health agency (ARS) of Pays-de-la-Loire. But there are also needs for other accessories, such as glasses and short-sleeved nursing outfits.

The ARS therefore announces the release of an envelope of two million euros to make the necessary purchases. A sum to which must be added a million euros released by the regional council of Pays-de-la-Loire. It will first be necessary to identify the sources of supply because demand having exploded on a global level, it is not easy to have access to the material. The distribution will then take place, after identification of the structures to be prioritized, indicates the ARS.

A regional collection

In the meantime, the ARS and the regional council are organizing a collection of medical protective equipment. "It is aimed at all those who have this equipment: companies, associations, local authorities, etc.". These structures are invited to make themselves known via the freephone number 0800 030 300.

In addition, new production circuits are being set up, with the "development of local textile production" and the "creation of local production of disposable plastic aprons".

According to the latest regional report published by the ARS, 820 hospitalizations for coronavirus are in progress, including 155 in intensive care.
