The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted to the entry of the former Yugoslav Republic, which has recently been called Northern Macedonia, into NATO. On March 27, this country officially became the 30th member of the alliance. The corresponding official commentary appeared on the website of the ministry. I will quote the most, in my opinion, the main thing.
“The integration of Northern Macedonia into NATO, a self-proclaimed alliance of democracies, has been accompanied by a multitude of procedural and legislative violations since the conclusion of the Prespanic Agreement with Greece in June 2018. Recall that, in accordance with national legislation, the appearance at the referendum on accession to the European Union and NATO on September 30, 2018 was not enough to recognize it as valid. Cases of various kinds of interference in the internal affairs of the country, including blackmail and intimidation, have become public. All this went unnoticed by our Western partners, who are usually scrupulous about the intricacies of compliance with legislative procedures. ”
Until then, despite the violations, Montenegro was shoved into NATO. In 1999, NATO bombers bombed Montenegrin cities along with Serbian ones, and now they are trying to prove to us that the Montenegrins forgot, forgave and massively voted for NATO membership. Oh well.
Of course, it is very significant that at the moment when the whole world is fighting with coronavirus and its consequences, when everyone, and US citizens in the first place, are horrified by the lack of funds and equipment, when many countries are on the verge of ruin and default, little North Macedonia pathetically joins NATO.
Yes, yes, of course, that the document was prepared for a long time and the decision was not made overnight. Of course, this was preceded by a long process of negotiation and preparation, and the date was agreed in advance, when few expected the pandemic to occur.
But in conditions when a third of the planet is already in quarantine, and the rest are being prepared, such steps look somehow comical and very strange from the point of view of common sense.
Let me remind you that Italy, one of the founding countries of NATO, is assisted by the Russian military, not NATO and not American. The USA itself is not helped by NATO friends, but, as the Americans themselves formulate in their security doctrine, “sworn enemies” - Russia and China. Moreover, in conditions when a huge amount of money is needed to combat the main global threat, the “Crown Apocalypse”, Skopje is required to urgently increase defense spending and purchase American weapons and military equipment in connection with NATO membership.
At a time when all responsible politicians are saying that the world should unite to fight a common misfortune, NATO, on the contrary, is creating more and more dividing lines in Europe.
However, what is the point of writing about morality, this is already boring in this context, and the moral of the NATO is exclusively Hottentot: "I stole a cow - good, I was stolen a cow - bad." Let's remember common sense.
What do the USA get from joining Northern Macedonia to NATO? Another vassal, who, joining the union, will have to completely obey and pay tribute in the form of purchases of American weapons.
What does Northern Macedonia get? The illusion of security, because it is already clear: NATO and the US will not stand up for anyone in the event of a crisis. The notorious fifth article of the NATO charter is needed solely for pro forma, this became apparent after Turkey was ordered to understand its problems in Syria itself.
That is, Northern Macedonia for a lot of money just bought a club card, for which you will need to pay carefully and on time every year, but all services for which are frozen.
One must be blind so as not to notice: the world is changing, and rapidly. "Everything in this world is raging." At the end of this year, we will live in a completely different, post-coronavirus, reality. The old paradigms will very soon be completely irrelevant. One must be very short-sighted, rigid and non-adaptive in order to act like Northern Macedonia in a similar situation.
Successful in this new reality, as always, will be countries that are able to adequately respond to challenges and adapt to rapidly changing conditions. This is the key to success of both the individual and the state. The winner is the one who has the will for this, possessing at the same time the necessary experience, skills and knowledge. Loses continuing to move on the old rails.
On the other hand, everything is logical. Have you heard anything about the outstanding successes of Northern Macedonia, this territory, in modern times? In economics, politics, culture? Unlikely.
- And what can we expect from a small country, to the capital of which, from the majority of world capitals, even before the onset of the coronavirus crisis, it was impossible to fly directly, only to the crossroads, because apparently there was no demand? - you ask.
And I will answer that size does not matter. Take a look at North Korea and everything will become clear. Not the most, to put it mildly, a large country with not the most serious resources, but it forced itself to listen and hear the whole “moral tuning fork” and “arbiter of the fate of the world” - the United States. Or, if you don't like North Korea, then look the other way, at Switzerland. It is not part of any blocs and at the same time has been flourishing for several centuries and is not participating in any wars.
Will and purposeful action is what matters. What North Korea, Switzerland and many other small countries have. And that which Northern Macedonia and other East European countries do not have, which in recent years have obediently and voluntarily bowed to NATO.
In general, NATO in its current form is very similar to a dinosaur. These reptiles, as you know, had a very slow nervous system, and as a result, when the predator was already chewing on the tail of the diplodocus, he only realized this and began to turn his head.
Now the role of the predator is not an external threat, but a coronavirus, but the NATO leadership continues with utterly reptilian obstinacy to insist on how Russia and China threaten all countries of the world.
A fascinating performance takes place before our eyes. Well, perhaps you should not interfere.
