Henan's "Wu Chunhong Poisoning Case" pleads not guilty after 15 years and will apply for state compensation

Beijing News (Reporter Li Yifan) Today (April 1), the "Wu Chunhong Poisoning Case" was held in Henan Higher Court for retrial and sentenced, and Wu Chunhong was acquitted. Attorney Li Changqing, Wu Chunhong's retrial defender, told the Beijing News reporter that after hearing the verdict, Wu Chunhong couldn't help crying. In addition, Wu Chunhong's son Wu Yunlei told the Beijing News reporter that he will pick up his father today and will apply for state compensation in the future.

The Beijing News previously reported that on November 15, 2004, the two sons defeated by the electrician king in Zhougang Village, Minquan County, Henan Province, had been poisoned, and his 3-year-old son Wang Cheng (pseudonym) rescued him from death. It was identified that both were poisoned by "rat poison". Seven days later, the Criminal Police Brigade of the Public Security Bureau of Minquan County announced that the case had been resolved. From June 23, 2005 to October 30, 2007, the Intermediate People's Court of Shangqiu City sentenced Wu Chunhong to three years of reprieve for intentional homicide, but both were sent back to the court for retrial on the grounds of "unclear facts" by the Henan High Court. Later the fourth court of Shangqiu City Intermediate Court was sentenced to life imprisonment again for intentional homicide.

After Wu Chunhong filed an appeal, the Henan High Court ruled to dismiss the appeal and upheld the original sentence. Since then, Wu Chunhong's appeal was also rejected by the Henan High Court. While serving her sentence, Wu Chunhong firmly pleaded not guilty and refused to reduce his sentence. On June 3, 2016, he filed a complaint with the Supreme Court. On October 3, 2018, Wu Chunhong's daughter Wu Lili received the Supreme Court's "Retrial Decision": "Wu Chunhong's evidence of intentional homicide is inaccurate and inadequate. The Henan High Court was ordered to conduct a retrial in this case."

Today (April 1), the "Wu Chunhong Poisoning Case" opened a retrial and sentenced in Henan High Court. Wu Chunhong was acquitted. At this point, Wu Chunhong has been detained for 5611 days.

Today (April 1), Wu Changhong's retrial defender, Li Changqing, recalled to the Beijing News reporter that the retrial was originally scheduled at 10 o'clock today, but he received a telephone notice in the morning and could appear in court in advance. The judge is ready. " He said that, as agreed at the scene, the presiding judge directly pronounced the sentence, "continuing for more than 10 minutes," and the original judgment was revoked.

Wu Chunhong, who was detained at Jinhua Prison in Zhejiang, "was particularly excited" when the video link was delivered. Li Changqing said that at that time he couldn't cry and couldn't say anything, and thanked the judge and the parties for their efforts.

Subsequently, the reporter from the Beijing News contacted Wu Yunlei who was heading to Zhejiang Jinhua Prison to pick up Wu Chunhong from prison. He told the Beijing News reporter, "After agreeing with the lawyer, we will apply for national compensation."
